Datsun has finally launched their long awaited car – Redi Go and it’s variants are priced between 2.5 lakhs to 3.5 lakhs. I’ve been following the launch of the car and I have three words to describe it – Fun. Freedom. Confidence. The ultimate Urban Cross – Datsun redi-GO has the capability of a crossover with the convenience of a hatchback.
It might be in the segment of Maruti Suzuki 800 and Hyundai Eon but at that price range it is going to give them a really tough competition. According to the reviews the Datsun redi-Go has a tall boy design with the ground clearance of a crossover. It looks very stylish and has more than enough head room even for someone 6ft tall.
Datsun Redi-Go Specifications:
Technically, the Datsun redi-GO measures 3429 mm in length, 1560 mm in width and 1541 mm in height. The wheelbase is 2348 mm with a ground clearance of 185 mm. The boot capacity is a decent 222-litres.
On the inside, it comes with a basic but clutter free cabin with the all the essential features including a 2-DIN audio system, USB and AUX connectivity, CD player, 2 speakers (which might be a problem as they are small and there is no other place to upgrade the speaker system), power steering and front power windows on higher variants. The top end trim also features daytime running lamps and the driver side airbag. The redi-GO is available in five colour options but my favourite is the green.
Under the hood, the Datsun redi-GO uses a 799cc iSAT (Intelligent Spark Automated Technology) three-cylinder petrol engine that is tuned to produce 53 bhp of power at 5678 rpm and 72 Nm of torque at 4386 rpm.
What I’m excited about:
I am looking at the Datsun Redi-Go as a young, fun, free yet a very capable, responsible and confident second car to be owned in a city like Delhi. I would love to test drive it on the roads of Delhi and Gurgaon. The three features that really stand out for me in this car are:
- Ground Clearance: Ground clearance is extremely important in India even if you’re looking for a city car and not an off roader ! Gurgaon is a new city still being built and half the roads are always dug up. To have a car for your daily commute that lets you have your peace of mind on these roads is definitely a big plus.
- Air Conditioning: A car without good Air Conditioning is not worth buying as the most important thing while driving is comfort in the heat, noise and pollution on the Delhi and Gurgaon roads. The Air conditioning on Datsun Redi-Go seems to be very promising and I would like to test that.
- Space inside the car: Reviewers are raving about the ‘tall boy design’ of the car which lends it great head room both at front and back seats. The leg room also seems to be pretty good and considering that I often have friends in the car, I’d like to put that to a test as well.
So, the Datsun Redi-Go seems like a very capable second city car to me and it will be the one I’ll be test driving next !
